#1 doesnt do anything to me
#2 is screaming square crop and more processing

Cool, thank you.

How bout this?

Better - now make all the wood around the central square darker and maybe the piece just above the lion as well.

Hmmm the first one is too much of a snapshot. Too busy and no central focus. Think about trying to simplify you're images a bit more. It could benefit from a contrast bump, but I dont know if it would help it much.
Two OK. Its not terribly interesting and doesn't have any pop out qualities. I do like the square crop better.

My edit may be a bit much but here it is anyway :)

i was thinking about this crop

Thanks for the feedback. I saw that first shot and thought it was interesting that it was an old run down house with a
degrading fence and trees with a rusted out wheelbarrow. Somewhat busy but i tend to shoot those a lot.
I thought the "knocker" on the door was cool, i don't normally see that here in this small town.

Which lens were you using here Canon AE-1?

Canon EF 28-80mm set at 28mm, F/4.5, EXP 1/60th, ISO 200

I was asking the same. The second shot shows a considerable amount of barrel distortion. If the place is close to you, just for test, try again with longer focal length.

In the first picture I would add some more contrast, as is is flat.

I did not notice that, your right. I'll try that test. The first shot is certainly not an award winner, lol, but i did like the view.
