Definition #3 would be the most appropriate here for you. although #2 would apply also! Basically what does Digital Photography "cover"?? Future applications should be easy... many of the current applications would apply (medical, Astro, sciences, any type of visual recording... etc..)

I am assuming you have been asked this question at school? Possibly for an essay or something? Do you have to write a paper on it? Contest in a question like this is very important (as Ysarex implies). I am making some guesses in my answer above... hope they are close! :0
