Why date? It's metadata, surely simply writing copyright, your name, and having embedded shooting date information is enough?

Some cameras have the ability to embed copyright information into the metadata as each image is taken. Other folk insert it as part of their PP routine. Pros, who rely on their images to be widely dispersed in order to make the mortgage payments, do this to CYA.

The question was not why would you enter data into the camera, the question was given that the camera embeds the shooting information into the metadata why would you bother with putting the date in your copyright info? Just write "Copryright {name}" and be done with it, without having to worry about the year. The year is already captured in other metadata.

Also, if you have a website, don't forget the typical copyright at the bottom either. Many don't update these for years even when they've updated their websites.

Because I can, and I want to, and that's the way I like it.

To each their own. If you wanna use 'your' way, fine with the rest of us. I simply posted this as a reminder to those who don't use 'your' way.
