Just about killed by a Tornado today.

How odd...I happened to watch the local news, and the weather segment showed YOUR area's tornado activity and destruction. I saw the havoc wreaked in your area, and the big, ominous, gray, classic funnel-shaped twister that did the damage. Glad you made it through the tornado!

How's your 8-year-old handling it? I mean, are they still freaked out or have they been able to move past it? I imagine that if it was terrifying for you, it was doubly- or triply-so for them.

The 8 year old says he's OK, but you can tell it has definitely affected him. He will come around eventually, but I'm sure this will weigh on him for a while.

The other one just says he "thinks it's cool" but we all know that's jut him being macho. They are both tough kids. They will get past it, learn from it and remember the story forever.

Glad you're ok. Sounds harrowing as hell, but quite a story.

We lived in Illinois when I was very young and I remember one day the sky got very dark and mom took me inexplicably to hide in the laundry room. She wouldn't explain why, but I remember it being very noisy outside and I was pretty scared.... then I distinctly recall the next day our neighbors were inexplicably rebuilding their house and I just couldn't quite figure out why.

Turns out a tornado wiped out the house a couple down from us. I was only 3 so I was really not grasping it, but I remember it pretty distinctly.

Anyway, glad you and your family are ok.
