Just bought my first tripod. Did I done goofed?

I looked for a Manfrotto, but I couldn't find one. Instead, I bought a Vanguard Alta Pro 263AB 100. I even got a killer deal on it. But I'm a little butthurt about spending over $200 on three sticks connected together at a single point. I only bought it because I need to do a big family portrait tomorrow with me in it. Is it worth keeping? What can I do with it? Shoot stars? Shoot rivers? What?!?!?!?

Use it! If there are problems with flimsiness, they will show up, and then you can sell it.

Looks like a fine unit. Might seem steep but I think you could have done worse. Buy the right gear, cry once, buy the wrong gear, cry twice lol

Tripods are useful for a variety of reasons. In addition to holding my camera I occasionally make it into a flash holder, bounce board holder and other misc duties.

I dunno....last week I read TPF's "lambertpix" and his review of that 'pod...seemed okay to me. For two bills, seems okay. Looks like it's got most of the modern, standard type features, and has flip-lock legs and spike foot option...seems like it ought to do most of what the typical person needs a tripod for.

I've just been pushing it off Scatterbrained. Since Darrel held a gun to my head to pick up a macro lens that I was looking at, I've gotten into live macro, and it's not quite a job for a tripod. BUT, I love astro photography as well, so I decided to pull the trigger, but my heart is still fluttering. I thought I could get away with a $50 tripod, but I knew none of you guys would let me live that down.

I don't shoot macro but my understanding is it is very helpful to have a tripod. With the yoga moves that thing can pull off you will be able to get right down on the ground or wherever you need to shoot.

Great for stills, but chasing jumping spiders is a bit difficult with a tripod. I'm sure it'll open up a whole new world of shooting for me. I'm starting to become happy with the purchase.

One other use for a good tripod is binoculars. I have a small 8x42 Celestron Granite pair and a giant 25x100 astronomical pair, both of which require three solid sticks and a good head. If you ever use a tripod to look up at night you'll be glad to have a good one.

One of my buddies has that tripod and he loves it. $200 isn't THAT bad for a nice tripod. I know I'd rather spend that $200 on something more fun like putting it toward a new lens or something but it's better to dish out some money on a tripod and it'll last a loooong time

I have a Vanguard Vanguard Alta+ but it was only $150 and then I bought a ball head for it. I really like it and think that it is a good tripod.
