I am new to the dslr work but have been trying to learn as much as I can! I am looking for a tripod ( like to spend 99.99 - 150.00 any suggestions, also want a remote trigger ( what do you recommend ? )...... Any other suggestions please advise :) if you know any really good starter threads for the d5100 please post :)

thank u so much for your help :)

I just have a cheaper tripod so I can't help you there. But I will recommend the YN-603 as a wireless trigger or the Zeikos ZE-MCDC2 if you're looking for a wired trigger (it's cheap but it gets the job done!).

A dolica aluminum tripod will cost around $60 max. The carbon fiber version is around $100. Other brands to consider are Ravelli, Benros, Flashpoint. I do recall seeing a Manfrotto with ballhead at that price range at Amazon. But often they don't come with a ballhead.

I wouldn't recommend buying a cheap TP. I tried that before and now I just ordered my new Triopo carbon fiber with ball head from ebay. Paid around 200$ with shipping but it was worth it. Cheap tripods cant stand still in windy places. especially if you are taking a snapshot during night for buildings or streets and your photo is taking about 35 seconds to close the aperture, you need a tripod that does not shake not even 1mm :)

I purchased the Benro MeFoto A1350Q1. I am using the D5100 as well and my heaviest lens is 16oz. I was looking for a very versitle tripod that would be used for mostly for travel but also wanted something for every day use. I have read a lot of reviews and have looked at several different options. This tripod has it all. It is sturdy (holds up to 17lbs...more than you'll need). It is tall (61" fully extended). It easily converts into a 64" monopod. It also folds up very tightly (15.4")...and it weighs only. 3.5lbs.
I was considering Manfrotto because of its history and reviews, however it was just too bulky (and expensive if you wanted to get a decent setup). The MeFoto can be found for $189 on Amazon or B&H. Look it up and do your research. I would recommend it, though.

For a tripod, the weight it can carry and the stability are great deciding factors. Check for tripods which can bear over 4 kilos (11 lb) in weight.

That is some nice gear you just acquired. You have to ask yourself what you want to do most, are you going to climb mountains with your tripod?
will you use it indoors? do you want to do macro? will you shoot video? The tripod and head you will buy depends on what you want to do.
