Justice Harlan Fiske Stone Bridge

When I to check out that castle I shared pictures earlier I drove pass this and stopped on the way back to get some images, thought it was quite interesting seeing a old rusted out bridge still standing next to a brand new one. They just left it there.

Further upon investigation, the old bridge, Justice Harlan Fiske Stone Bridge, was given an award in 1937 as the most beautiful steel bridge. In 2003 they built a new one due to concerns of structural integrity right next to it and they kept the old one as a pedestrian bridge.

Thanks, @nerwin now now I've got more to worry about!! Our town is built right up to the bank on each side of a river. We have one interstate bridge, one city two lane, and one state 4 lane. The state one gets the most traffic because it's in the middle of the shopping district. Unfortunately stop lights are such that you often get caught in the middle of the bridge waiting for the light to change. When you're in the middle it's amazing how much movement you can feel, even sitting in your vehicle. I've always been uneasy on this bridge, now I may have to take a different route, because every move will make me think of your photos.

Well you have to remember that bridge has been unused and no longer maintained since 2003. Someday they'll probably replace it with a regular walking bridge.

Bridges do move some, they are designed to. But yeah, they can be scary especially if you are stopped on it and you can feel it swaying. This one didn't move because it's not that big but yeah it's fallen into disrepair quite severely.
