Last in Line

Around 200 monks and novices filed past during early morning alms in Luang Prabang in northern Laos. This young novice was last in line.

I will go against the flow here because I do not qute like the shot. Will try to explain why.

To me it feels very much like either a part of a larger image or an image that begs for a closeup. We see the line of monks, but we do not see the whole picture. We do not even see what they are queuing for. At the same time it is not a closeup on details or faces etc. It is kind of a middle distance shot that does not tell the whole story and does not bring us close either.
What is the main subject here? If it is the last guy in the queue, then his positioning in the frame is rather random. The queue itself is broken into two parts and there is no smooth focus transition.

I would have definitely major on the last guy but to do so you need to crop to 2/3 portrait and cut the far end of the queue off, so that we could get closer, emphasize the guy's turn, put him nearer to 1/3 of the frame, remove gray (pavement) and balance the orange/white proportion. Also, the image has to major on the contrast between the guy who looks at us and the rest of the line. Problem is - with this framing there is the wrong balance between the last guy and the line. The line dominates too much.

Just my 2 p, we all see differently.
