Late Night Party

I spent last week volunteering at church camp at Lake Okoboji in Iowa. We knew weather was coming in overnight and had all of the contingency plans in place, so I headed for a dock with my camera. Thunderstorms were another first for me and I'm pretty happy with the results.

A little smaller aperture might have sharpened up the foreground a little.

I will say this forum seriously helped shorten the on-site learning curve.

I think the highlights around the center building, the lowest building, look like they have been over-recovered...to me, that one,tiny highlight area and its weird coloration draws my eye; I think all of the highlighted areas could be allowed to be a little bit brighter, if possible. I know it's a nocturne, but to me, I think the overall shot is a wee bit too dark on the highlight areas. I might also perhaps crop off 15 percent of the frame, all on the left hand side...I think it is too panoramic for maximum impact. Otherwise, a very cool photo. Amazing, dramatic cloud formation with lightning well-dispered across the frame. Cool photo. That's my C&C.

Thanks Derrel. I had actually brought the strongest highlights down, the thought being that they would distract less from the sky. I'll play with that a little more. And as far as cropping, didn't even go there yet. I don't usually crop any of my stuff until I'm ready to print so I have as much room as possible for different ratios. But I agree, it could use a crop.
