wow. a lot of pics there.....more separation from the background would be nice. some of them really just kind of blend in like the wine bottle. i like the smoke ones though

yeah i know, the cloth isn't that big. i should have bought 2m instead of 1, now i gotta go back to Fabricland. Do you know why my smoke turns out blue and gray, not matter what white balance i used it does the same thing. there is no blue around as you can see

I'm not sure because i've never shot smoke. My theory would be that the smoke actually has a blue cast to it that you don't notice, but when you hit it with a strobe it enhances it. just a theory.

i even covered the flash with a black sheet of paper so it fires like a canon on to the smoke and doesn't bounce around the room. could be that black cardboard. Ill revise tomorrow, really late now time to sleep.

the pipe shot is rich. For your setup I think you did very very well!

Thank you! i hope one day ill be able to afford all that fancy lighting.

Oh i have that book, just never got around reading it since school keeps me busy. But soon as im on my break im starting to read up on photography.

Cool set, and thanks for the setup shot, they're not done as often as they should be.

I think #2 is too tight, I prefer #3, I really like #6 of the pipe shots, and #13 of the smoke shots wins to me.

I think you just inspired me to try to shoot smoke tonight.

As an avid smoker of pipe and cigars, I love the pipe photos. I'm very thankful for both the setup picture and the book suggestion above. Starting to wish I had joined the forum a long time ago.

Judging by how well you're doing with unfancy lighting, I hope you'll never be able to upgrade!
