Would you purchase a Tamron FX lens 70-200 F/2.8 for a Nikon D700 OR save up and get the real thing

I currently have the Nikon 70-300 F/4.5-5.6 VRII

this is the one i was researching

Depends what you will be shooting with it. I have the Tamron lens and it's a macro lens-the focus is slow as mud on it because of it. However, for portraits and weddings it served me well. For sports or anything I needed fast focus for? I have the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 OS version which is a better all around lens.
For the price? If you are using it for portraits and macro? It's outstanding. It's not a VR lens. The Sigma OS version is (OS is Sigma's equivalent to the VR.)

I would recommend a nikon 80-200mm 2.8 af-s for around $900, or the af-d two-ring version which cost around $650

I saved pennies for the Nikon 70-200 before I got my FX cam

See if you can find a used one for a decent price. And continue to save money. By the time you save enough, most likely you can sell it for what it cost you in the beginning.
