    Hello all.
Just recently, I could start hearing sounds coming from my 18-135. Sounds, like a very small fragment of plastic rolling around the lens internally, and I would hear it whenever I changed the orientation of the lens.
Sometimes, when zooming, the zoom gets stuck on that 'bit', I would have to tilt the camera back, listen for it to fall out of place then am able to zoom.
Furthermore, the focal length EXIF data is inaccurate. I would shoot at an extremely wide angle of 18 or 20mm, but the EXIF would display 135mm. As a result, the maximum aperture automatically stops down to 5.0 or 5.6, even though it should be at 3.5 at 18mm.

I have dropped the lens only once, and that was about 5 months back. The UV filter smashed, and is there a possibility a glass fragment entered the lens? But if so, it should be visible at the lens portion, not the electrical contacts.

Can any shed some light on this issue?

I guess it is time for taking the lens to Canon repair center have them take a look.
