Lens hood kit

I have a Canon SX40. I'm looking for for a way to use a UV filter and a hood at the same time. Does such a thing exist for this camera?

It looks like B&H sells an adapter for the HS model to 67mm threads.

G'day mate

I run Lumix cameras and like you, find that the OEM lens hood is a waste of space most times ... meaning that it covers the wide-angle end of the zoom lens but once I zoom over say, 6x-zoom / 150mm equiv then the lens hood might as well not be there

So I did a DIY using a $2 plastic drinking glass of "the appropriate diameter" for the Lumix, cut the bottom off the plastic-glass, used epoxy to glue a 55mm dia UV into it and hey-presto, I have a super lens hood that works a treat from 5x zoom to 24x zoom

Extra stuff I did was to use rough sandpaper (60-grit) to kill off the shiny inner surface and a can of matt-black spray paint all over to finish it off

Yes, it’s possible, but not with the stock Canon setup. On the Canon PowerShot SX40 HS you need a lens adapter ring to use filters like a UV filter. The issue is that the original Canon hood and the filter adapter usually mount to the same point, so they can’t be used together at the same time. Most people solve this by using a screw-in hood that attaches directly to the UV filter, or a combination adapter + filter thread setup that allows both on the front.
