Is this normal for all dslrs/lenses? How many of you have cameras/lenses that are absolutely uniformly tight?

I would not be happy with that much movement, contact Canon and get it repaired or replaced.

It doesn't look too bad to me - some lenses fit very snug (my Tokina lens fits very tight) others can have a very small amount of play around the join - doesn't generally affect anything when shooting. So long as its locked in you shouldn't have a problem.
