Lens obstruction?

So as you may know I stripped my tripod mount screw hole. I went ahead and gave it to my dad to put heli coils in and when he gave it back I turned it on and the lens went out to it's normal position then an error popped up saying there was a lens obstruction and to restart the camera. So i did. The lens extended out to full zoom position and the same thing happened again. I have a ge x500 so it is a bridge camera so it's not like the issue is with my lens only. Does anybody have any clue what to do? I have tried tapping it. I tried lightly blowing on it and using an air compressor to try to blow any particles out. nothing worked. The reason why I bring up the heli coil issue is one because my dad had to tap it out so it's possible a particle fell down into the camera. Or the much scarier one. At the bottom of the screw hole instead of being closed off like a normal one there was a piece of electric ribbon. We pulled the helicoils out and that section of ribbon was torn up. So what can I do? I don't want to send it out for repair because I only paid 100 bucks for it. But at the same time I feel like if I tried opening it up then it would for sure be messed up.. What would you reccomend. I really want to fix this becuase I cant afford a digital bridge or dslr camera which means I'm stuck shooting film. Which isn't bad. Ive done it before and enjoy it, but it is pretty expensive to shoot with all the time. Keeping in mind I'm only 16. Sorry if this doesn't make sense. If you have questions about what I'm saying I will happily answer them. Also on a side note does the Pentax A3000 use the bayonet mount?

The Pentax A3000 can use multiple K-mouint lenses...the SMC-A lenses are the preferred ones, for ALL mode usage; the K- and Kf mounts also work but not in all modes. See the manual here: http://www.cameramanuals.org/pentax_pdf/pentax_a3000.pdf

OUCH on the ribbon cable...my guess is the repair job has damaged a critical electrical system conduit...

Thank you for the info on the a3000 (if this doesn't pan out it will be the camera I use) Do you know anybody that has had something similar happen or would know what the cost of professional repair would be?
