Lens or Flash

I had that lens on a Nikon D7000, I was not all that impressed with it and didn't see any difference over the kit lens other than the fast f/2.8. But, it was pretty soft on the edges below f/5.6. I also have and use a Godox TT685n which is the same flash, just rebranded as FlashPoint and it is first rate. A good flash can do wonders though.
