Alright, bought a Canon 60mm macro lens on ebay brand new. The seller sends it in its Canon box in a padded mailer. The box is crushed on one side. Is the lens still 'safe' or could there be any internal damages?

Take pictures of the box if you want to find out before opening it , you can always refuse and return to sender. I'm sure it was insured and hopefully for the right amount.

Define "crushed". I have seen lenses take severe amounts of impact and be just fine, and I have also seen them barely be hit at all, but just in the right spot and be totaled.

Have you opened it up and checked out the lens?

They just sent it on one of those bubble wrap envelopes...?? That's pretty f*ed up. I would definitely mention that when you're leaving your feedback...

The box has styrofoam inserts in it, so the lens may still be fine.

Maybe a bit late since it appears you already got the lens from your shipping handler, but.. the best thing to do is to always inspect packages before accepting it and before signing any documents that you received the item. If there are any damages, you and who ever is handling the shipping should fill out some documents, leaving you with documentation that the box was damaged when you got it. Then - if the actual lens is damaged - it will be much easier to get your money back. Most handlers have good insurances covering any such losses.

Maybe I should rephrase my question. Is the OEM Canon box adequate protection for lenses? Especially since they're also wrapped in bubble? Don't have much experience with lenses, are they durable?

The Canon box is half torn on one side and the bottom flap was open. The seller did not put any insurance or anything else besides tracking. It was stuck in a yellow bubble envelope and mailed via USPS. My mailman simply stuck the package in the mailbox. On another note, I googled 'King Camera' and things do not look good.

If it's faulty, contact ebay and open a dispute, declaring the item 'not as described'. Return it recorded and get your money back c/o Paypal.
