Lensbaby landscape

I was using the LBV just for macro and flowers but gave it a go for some landscapes a few weeks ago.

I typically associate the Lensbaby soft focus looks with spring and summer scenes, and am not used to seeing cold, wintery scenery shot in soft focus.

About two months ago I bought a Lensbaby book at Goodwill. I own three different Lensbaby models. I like the Lensbaby idea.

I like it. It gives the image a sort of 3D effect.

I like it but something tells me if a small branch/twig like in the center of the picture were closer or more in focus and sharper than everything else it would give the overall picture a little more of a 3D effect, as mentioned.

I think they are fun and creative. I only have the Velvet 56 but I think the Burnside looks like a winner and may pick one up. I don’t like the ones that are too far from “normal”. There’s a great Facebook group called Lensbaby Unplugged where I’ve seen some really great work and also some real head scratchers. You should check it out.

There are some Lensbabies that do that selective in focus look but this one does more of an overall softness and glow. Otherwise it would be bokeh which this isn’t. This is focused at infinity but at a wide aperture to give the whole scene that dreamy look.

The LB I have has the selective focus. It can be terrific, but there have been times when it also seems too exaggerated, to the point of causing a sense of vertigo when viewing the shot. I learned to be very selective with it.

I'm not real familiar with Lensbabies but I have seen some that focus on a particular thing just like you mentioned. That would be the lens for what I described. Don't get me wrong though, I do like this pic a lot and it does have that dreamy feel to it, kind of like this scene from the movie, "Legend."
