Nice shot - you need to use a fill light to do away with their faces being in the shadows. My other point is that you cropped your wife's head off. Would also be better if your daughter was looking at the camera as your wife is. My 0.02¢ FWIW.

Well, you have a beautiful wife and daughter, but you already knew that. I agree with WesternGuy that some fill light would be beneficial here and give their eyes a bit more sparkle. In this case even a reflector would have worked well. As for the framing, if you have raised the camera just a bit, to show the top of your wife's head, that would have also helped the image. I do really like the backlight and the fact that you came in close and filled the frame. Just a matter of practice regarding not scalping your loved ones...;)

A cute family including you in the signature image; i too feel a bad cropping there; further your baby's head is OE due to direct sun

Regards :D

That shot is good enough. Just explore more though on the basics of photography. It won't take long before you can get the photo of your fam into perfection. As of this photo, it's not that impressive. The flaws mainly revolve around lighting. Maybe you can read more on outdoor photography.

I hope you don't become discouraged by the criticism, it is all meant to help you improve. The light effect is called "rim light", and it is often one of the most dramatic lighting effects, but the downside is that the subject's face(s) are now in shade, so that is the reason for the suggestions of additional light. You can make use of the sun's light here with the use of a simple reflector. Doesn't take much, and some people use something as simple as a 3x2 ft. sheet of foamcore. Of course, you will need to devise a way to hold it at the right angle to illuminate their faces. The easiest way is to simply ask someone to help by holding the reflector.
