Not really for CC: just some tests made for filling some time.

The first two are made with a Rokinon 55/1.4 wide open, with off camera flash YN465 (in different position).

Third is made with Zenitar 50/1.9 at f/4, no flash.

Good examples so far. Would like to see more.

A little off topic, but how are you liking your YN465?

Derrel: thanks (although I'm not sure these things are interesting, is just because weather is/was horrible... ). I'll try some other lens in the next days.

Geaux: I like it, but I do not have flash experience, so I cannot compare. I recently found it does not allow high speed sync; and higher-end flashes have zooms, this one not (this I knew, but I went the cheap side). On the other side I can choose power, and with low power recycle time seems short (again, I cannot compare). I found recycle time limiting only when shooting water drops (of course). Enclosed 18mm diffusor and reflector seem practical for me.

Today is very sunny, although cold.

This is again with Rokinon 55/1.4, window light:

And this the Rokinon 55/1.4 at f/11 (not sure it makes sens to look at light reflex for understanding sharpness). This has been slightly filled with flash, to lighten shadows.

This is shot with a Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 135/3.5, wide open, window light (I also spent time with hand-held flash around). Sonnar allows for relatively close focus, around 1m.

What vintage is this Rokinon 55mm lens?? I think it has a nice defocus area look.

Was the Ricoh name for lenses, most likely one of those Tomioka or Tomioka-style 55mm that can be found also under other brand names (Revuenon, Porst, Sears, etc) . I like it too .

Taken with a Zeiss Jena Tessar 50/2.8, with an old cross-screen filter I had from my analog past.

Again Rikenon 55/1.4, YN465 flash on camera, bounced towards ceiling (more or less, I took many pictures), some ambient light (candles, to weak lamps, christmas tree behind).

Again with Rikenon (I like it, but tomorrow I'll go out with a different prime :) ), artificial light, at f/1.4:

can you just do the blur with photoshop?

You can do ANYTHING in photoshop. Why not just create the bokeh in camera and get it right the first time?

+1. By the way, you could also simply paint from zero the whole scene... ;)

In the bass picture I could have been more precise, avoiding to cut the lower part of the bass. However, he was moving and I did not want to ask him a pose for a picture, although next time I'll do.

That Rokinon 55mm looks like a very nice lens. I have 8 legasy 50 something lenses but not a Rokinon. My fastest is a Minolta 50/1.4 which is also a good performer.
