Hi Professionals :)

I have posted the post below because i need some comments on lighting, So sorry for reposting the thread .. but i think it will work better in beyond the basics.

Also, would a single wireflash do the job for much better effects?

Thank you ..

Hi guys..

Here are some of the photos of my second portrait trails with my new 60d, this is my sister in law and the lighting was only from the window no refletors also..

Please advise on what do i need to improve the portrait shoots..

Also, I am trying to learn more about lighting and what do i need to get the professional effects.. are there good books or websites for that ?

Thank you for your support in advance.

Best regards,

AAH

You need to get your images sharply focused before you worry about your lighting. As far as books, head down to your library and see what they have. Lighting theory hasn't changed, so even if they're old books, the information is still valid.

Thank you for noting the focus issue and i totally agree with u..

The problem is i am still not able to find the best way for the getting the proper sharpness.. I thought it was sharp on the LCD and i locked the focus on the eye and recomposed using the spot metering ..

do i need to use the evaluated or do you have other tips?

bring your aperture up for less dof. These are portraits, we want so see her full face clearly. When shooting a subject with dark hair against a dark background (or if you plan on shooting so the background falls out) you should use a flash behind her to give some separation from her and the background so her hair does not fall into it. Also, try to keep the background less noisy.

1. Higher aperture for less dof....what's that blue thing in the corner? its drawing my attention away from the eyes

2. busy background. try to shoot against a plain backdrop like a wall

3. you lopped of her head. use a flash behind to give the hair seperation from background

4. still lopping off part of her face. perhaps a little less head tilt to properly fill the frame.

Thank you for the advise very helpfull .. the blue thing is the laptop screen lol :) i just took her photos in the living room without any plans for the background.. and now i will try to plan the background before shooting. i used f/1.4 what do u think is best for portraits ( i know every case is different but like what to start with and what is the most used)

thank you again ..
