As this is one of my favorites from my safari in Sept. '13, I would really like to hear what others think.

I can see why you would like it. Hard to put it into words but the lioness has a very strong, healthy* and determined look. The trees make a neat, if a wild and imperfect boarder that honestly I think detracts a little from it as a pure artistic image.

Put a story behind it and place it in a series of documentary style photos and it would do decently well as showcasing the specific cat; but it likely wouldn't stand strong on its own as an artistic/single photo style affair.

*although there is that rather odd looking line around her ribcage - pretty sure that's her and not a twig in the foreground; but hard to tell if its some kind of mark; healed scar or simply a ripple in the fur from her motions.

I like the way the branch follows the curve of her head so exactly, but at the same time, I don't like the way the one follows her near hind leg; it almost makes it look like she's wearing a prosthesis. That aside however, it's a nice shot. I think cropping some foreground and some off of the LH side to get her out of center would help make it even better.

Yeah, I think it's the border effect that I like and I have all the other photos of the same cat at the same time. The line on her rib cage is a scar I think.
John, I think I cropped so that her head is at a thirds intersection, but I'm definitely going to try a little off the left. Thanks guys.

I personally like the lioness walking high in the scene, and as a painting see her maybe even higher leaving a large archlike negative space below. It sure would not be customary composition, but I see it working artistically. I would have to loose some of the branches in a painting and would probably work them out with PS for this photo (it wouldn't be easy). I really love this shot though, congratulations.
