Great little find, and by little, I mean really little.

Out of curiosity, why didn't you shoot it straight or straighten it. Was there a reason or just a quick snap?

it is in maine. Not sure what they are asking. My family actually owns two similar ones and is contemplating selling one but it isn't a retail market type of thing. They are grandfathered under a church ordinance going back over a hundred years so any buyer has to be approved by the church and jump through hoops to buy one. A regular person isn't allowed to purchase without deep church ties and longstanding family membership. It is like a quaker thing, but not quakers.

what you are basically buying with these is the grandfathering. They are protected to a extent to federal and state laws and under the church guise because they are grandfathered. But to keep that you have to leave a certain amount of the existing structure. you are not allowed to knock it down. you aren't allowed to rebuild. If the entire thing burns down you cant rebuild the government doesn't like these at all. so it has some limitation. Also for inheritance. For instance my family owns, I don't. If my parents decided to try to pass to me I would have to be approved through the church. If im not approved I cant have it. we had a gentlemen try to leave one to his daughter, the battle was about to ensue in court. she wasn't approved through the church. so he ended up having to sell it and she couldn't have it. You pay virtually zero taxes on them however and just a small church fee to keep one. And can do pretty much what you want with it long as you maintain the existing structure to a degree.. so you are really buying into something, not so much the little house itself.

approval now is either through the Advent Christian denomination or seventh day Adventists depending on the property . Seems both have ended up with a portion

in a way.

For approval you basically have to justify your life and standing in relation to God and the church. The woman refused inheritance of one was just deemed not a active participant. I have a chance of getting inheritance (small) but if I were to divorce or any indiscretion I would be called out on the carpet for justification of it before a board and probably wouldn't have a snowballs chance in .... at that point. The woman refused was happily married and just with children, and was refused for lack of church standing. My prior family's inheritance was because one of my parents is a minister. It is mostly those deeply involved that get these. Really has nothing to do with the money but the criteria, so no matter what you offer, it doesn't really matter. When my time comes, i'm going to have a lot of explaining to do.....

something goes wrong in raising my kids, family, debts, whatever, it all comes in question with your standing. They normally end up for sale when the offspring isn't thought to be able to pass the standing or criteria and it cant be left to them. Money from the sale still goes to the person selling or the children inheriting but the churches really control who ends up with by a approving or disapproving the sale.
