This last frame is Greg Connell knife-edging his Pitts. Greg tragically died in a crash incident during this show.

Nice set. Looks like you could have tried going a little faster with the shutter speed to freeze up the planes just a little better.

How fast? Just for future reference.

Wow I love them great work.

I just recently went to an airshow, and I was shooting 1/640 and 1/800sec @ 600mm.

I was still getting prop blur, but noticeably sharper planes at 1/800. I binned all the shots taken any slower, and most even at 1/640 weren't great. It's really about finding that perfect balance between freezing the plane, but keeping the props blurred, and then just a shutter speed that works with your focal length in the first place.

Great set.
Sad to hear about Mr. Connell.
Thanks! I had just said hi to Greg a few hours before because I liked his Pitts.

Thank you.

Thanks. I may try 1/800 some next time, but they mostly don't seem to blur enough for me at 800. I get burned out as the day runs on- it seems the later it is and the more sunburned-dehydrated-sore I am, the less sharp my photos are. A graph of it would look like a cliff :(

OMG that third one ROCKS.

The fourth one is pretty awesome, too, but the colors aren't quite as eye-popping.
