Location location location

Possibly not a true photography question, but only a photographer coudl answer and of course any points to remember on techniques are also welcomed. In short the question is where to shoot?

We have two students that have booked a day at the local city town hall to get marrieod on monday valentines day. Thieir parents are on the other side of the world so it is up to us at their university department to sort out their day and I got elected to give the bride away and take pictures. However this is a bit of an unusual time to get married here in deepest darkest denmark light and weather wise.

The weather forcast says it is going to be a cold and overcast day. The couple have mentioned that they would like the photos taken just after the ceremony.

The sun (if it were visable) will be lowish but probably totaly obscured, the temperature will be hovering around freezing. the ceremony will take place in the center of Copenhagen city center. It is quite an open and big city square, but even on a good day there ish shadow over the front of town hall. There are some parks not too far away (but with no leaves on the trees), also some canals, and we could go to some buildings or churches as background. The bride will not be dressed for the weather.

Does anyone have any good reccomendations as to what to do with the couple to get them some pictures they would probably like (possibly even with some examples)? What sort of area should we head for? or should we just stay at the town hall given the temperature and the state of the brided cloths?

did you look inside the cityhall? might have nice stairs and big halls? Big windows?

Would it be an idea to find some sort of clothing to be able to take outside pictures?

(but forkie's strategy sounds rather nice )

The pub sounded very good after the shoot, unfortunatly i think i was the only one who wanted a drink!?!

It was in the city hall and you were dead right the ceelings were exceptionally high and there were plenty of internal arches etc. We didnt take advantage of them enough as the couple had their own ideas as to what we should shoot but it was good advice. Next time it may be an idea to take a whip .
