Lone Survivor....Mallard Chick

I have been watching several Mallard and Wood Ducks families down by the lake. This Mallard Chick had 5 siblings 10 days ago.... now he is the lone survivor.

I thought the concept of ducks being eaten by fish was absurd. Until I saw it with my own eyes.

Hawk? Raccoon? Fox? Bobcat? Baby ducklings and geese have predators that hunt 24/7.

Actially at this lake it's mostly Ferrel Cats and Gators!

Actually I came close. When I pulled up they were 2 chicks with the Mama Duck walking the shore. Cat came out of no where and snatched the slower one. I actually tried to scare the cat to release the chick but that cat basically gave me the finger and took the chick back into the bushes.
