Over 40 years at this and I've never been a long lens shooter. When I bought my Fuji X-E2 in November one of the deciding factors was Fuji's 14mm f/2.8 -- I consider the camera worth it just to use that lens.

One advantage of the X-E2 is that it's mirrorless and so has a shortened flange to sensor distance which permits an adapter to mount all kinds of lenses. Planning on that I bought an adapter that would allow me to mount my old 60mm enlarging lens to use for macro -- works great.

Well since I had the adapter I said to myself I should consider getting an inexpensive long lens. So I found an old Pentax 150mm for $70.00 and bought it. Yesterday I got a chance to try it out. I took it over to the Port of St. Louis (there's a hill above the river). Here's two photos:

Nice images, but your 150mm was neither particularly long or cheap. :blackeye:
My Pentax 135mm f/3.5 lenses are unfortunately not worth anything like $70, and my Takumar 300mm f/4 was only twice as much...

Theres certainly a lot of pleasure to be had from adapting older lenses.
Which version did you get the M150 f/3.5 or the older K150 f/4?

It's the 150mm f/4. It came with hood and caps and all in nearly as new condition. On an APS sensor that's a FOV of 8.5 degrees and that's a long lens. How particular it is I didn't specify.

The 200mm f/4 Super-Takumar in m42 mount is a very sharp lens, and sells very affordably. It has a rather slow focusing action...lots of turning and turning and turning...might be good for precision on a camera with live view. I used it on my 5D with an adapter, very sharp.

Nice shots Joe. I have a soft spot for work boats. Towboats in particular. You did this one justice.

We have something in common then. I have a large collection of tow photos. I hung a show at the National Great Rivers Museum in which I featured lots and lots of tow photos from all up and down the river. No place I'd rather be than out on the river.

Nice Joe. That's a sad old river boat you captured there. I really like the shot over the stern of the towboat. It's a view you don't see everyday.

The derelict is the Mamie Barrett -- her final rest is along the river down by Waterproof Mississippi. The tow shot from the stern is the New Dawn passing under the bridge at Lacrosse Wisconsin. Those are both from back in the days when I shot film.
