Well I think the obvious question is what did you shoot this with? Is it a crop? If its not a crop, its a very nice photo. Also, it looksl ike it could use some color correction..unless you have yellow gulls where you live.

Looks like some early morning or late evening lighting.....cool shot!.

Mark, I used a Nikon D3000 300mm lens f/5.6 1/500 sec ISO 100. It's not cropped and the color is fairly true. There was a strong northeaster blowing that day and the gull was soaring facing the wind with almost no forward motion right in front of me.
