Hey guys, I'm looking to expand my lense collection with a nice 200mm lense... Don't know much about any kind of lenses with this big of a size... I'm looking to be able to zoom nicely onto a flower or onto a bridge in the distance.. A nice variable mm would also work.... Can anyone school me on a nice lens for my d60 ?? Any help is much appreciated guys thanks !!

LOL! Sorry I could not give better advice (although, I think my suggestion was a good starting point).... I'm a Canon girl.

The best:
Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VRII... $2.4k... Amazing.

The 2nd best:
Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VRI.. Used $1.4k... Used to be the best until the VRII came out. Still Amazing on DX.

The Others:
Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 (current model.. not the soon to be shipping moddel) $800.. Ok sharpness, but VERY slow auto focus.
Nikon 70-300 f/4.5-5.6G VR.. $590.. Nice and sharp but variable aperture makes it not good in low light.
Nikon 70-200 f/4.. $1.4k.. New lens. Not a lot of reviews.
Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 OS.. $1.3k.. Good lens but there are better options for the money.

Kit lenses:
Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G VR.. $250.. Kit lens. Plastic. Does a great job for what it is.
Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G VR .. $400.. Kit lens. Plastic. Does a great job for what it is.

With out knowing what you want to spend its hard to know what to recommend... so just get the $2.4k Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VR2 and have the best :)

If you want to save $$ you might want to consider upgrading to something with a AF motor (D80, D200, D90), that way you could use non af-s f2.8 glass which can be cheaper.

The nikon 80-200mm f2.8 af-d for example can be had for around $400. There's also a nikon 70-300mm f4-5.6 af-d ed that sells for less than $100

Or learn to focus the old way -- manually. ;)
