Looking to get a new camera: D5000 or D3100

I am looking to get a new Nikon DSLR, I want to choose between the D5000 and the D3100.

I was going toward the D3100 because it's newer. Then I remembered the D5000, and the reason I'd get the D5000 is because of the swivel screen and I do a lot of shots at low angles and different angles. I am not interested in video that much, just taking pictures, or doing shots in low light, so the video and ISO don't matter that much. Megapixels don't matter to me either, 14 and 12, it doesn't matter to me.

Which one would you choose? And why would you choose one over the other?

Based on your criteria, the D5000 seems to be the clear choice.

I like my d5000(it's my wifes camera now), I love my d7000. I have never used a D3100. For the right price that D5000 aint too bad.

They 5100 is out now. Good motor.

I own the 5000 and love it. The swivel screen is very nice for me because I also take shots at weird angles.

It really just boiled down to me going into the store and holding it. It just felt comfortable.

It's not the body that matters, it's the glass you put on it!
