low light situation

Right, but all things being equal, anything is going to degrade its quality. The best one can do is get it right in the camera in the first place.

Again - what kind of camera are you using?
 
Buy a great low light P&S Camera for clubs, you don't want an SLR or external flash at a party in the club.

Do they make such a thing? With the pitifully small sensors of most p&s, low light is what they are worst at.
 
What camera are you using? There is a huge difference in ISO performance among bodies.


Or you can try the cheapest solution - try some noise reduction software until you get better lens/body/flash.

That sacrifices detail and image quality.

Well, it all depends how much effort you put into it.

I'm not sure effort will sharpen the image. If it could I would work harder.

Agreed. All things being equal, noise removal degrades image quality. It's much better to get the exposure as close to correct as possible.
