I like this one! I can definitely come up with a narrative to accompany what I see. The lighting and colors are wonderful.

I'm not too sure I like the bit of roof peeking in the top right corner. A lovely shot either way though.

I put this up for a couple of reasons. It really brought back to me the feeling of sitting and watching the river with no place to go and nothing important to do. For a simple snapshot, it did seem to tell a simple story with lots of hints to embellish it.

If by cocktails, you mean Beer Lao then it is very possible and enjoyable.
You can also get Lao-Lao by the glass or by the bottle.
After having drunk a shot glass full, I think that any left over not drink could be used to fuel any jet engine.

It's hard to believe that I didn't take a picture of a menu but I didn't. What a jerk. The food at these places was relatively simple and familiar, sort of a pan-Asian attempt to provide foods easy for Westerners to understand and to eat. Lots of rice and noodle dishes of varying spiciness, with a few very Lao dishes of finely minced meat (pork or chicken) highly spiced. Lots of the wonderful Beer Lao to accompany the meal.
The bottle you see there was about $1.

I can say that the best meal I had was a picnic lunch halfway through a hike across some dry rice paddies and up a tortuous hillside to see a lovely falls. The guide carried this food wrapped in banana leaves. On the way out we passed by a small farm and the pigs ignored us; on the way back, the pigs came running because the guide always fed them the leftovers.

Best part of all these photos Lew is they mean something to you. A record, memory. How often do you get to travel and enjoy? Someone will most always be able to take a better photo of something. Who cares. snapshot away and put your memories down. You will be looking back on these for years to come.

I kinda thought the same thing, but I was sort of reminded how in areas of the world where TV isn't as prevalent, they tend to really be into ultra saturated plastics.
