Found an Auto Revuenon 50mm f/1.8 MF lens at home and it is in mint condition and planning to use it on my D200. Though I have to by an M42 adapter. Found out that with cheaper ones I can't focus to infinity but with more expensive ones I can. What are the pros and cons and what I am going to miss out if buying the cheaper one?

Adapters with a glass element in them WILL focus to infinity, but in my experience, the quality is usually poor. There's a slight (very slight) telephoto effect as well, probably 1.2x or so, maybe 1.3x, and in my experience, usually some degradation of the lens quality. WITHOUT a glass element, an M42 lens on a Nikon body will NOT focus to infinity, and is thus only useful for closer-range shots. Bottom line: if a guy wants to use adapted lenses, get a Canon EOS, and eliminate the need for glass in the adapters with seven different 35mm SLR mount lenses.

Thanks! The telephoto effect is only with adapter with glass?
