Just practicing my pen making skills before i start one of the hardest pen makes yet. I was given three pen blank sized pieces of wood from the USS Constitution. Since i haven't made one in a while because of school, i decided to practice. And take pictures with my new 80-200!!!

nothin?

1. I'm a newb to photography, but I like the pictures.

2. Sell me a blank from the USS Constitution? Or at least give me the supplier's name?

I used to make pens in wood shop in middle school. I loved doing it, it was so fun. These pictures bring back those memories. Thanks they are awesome!

I have no idea about making pens (but it sounds fun), but I think these are great wood working action shots.

Other than the ridiculously obnoxious watermarks, I really like the pictures. Sounds like a fun hobby.

I got them personally from someone who had a blank of them. He asked me to make a pen for him out of it. The wood is really split so im not sure itll even work.

thanks all!

Nicely captured. I like how the blanks are blurred indicating speed but the carvings are frozen. Nice balance of shutter speed.

I have a well equipped wood-shop & the only power tool I am nervous using is the lathe.

Nice action shots.

But the lathe is basiaclly the best tool in the shop!

Thanks! technically my flash sync speed is only 1/250, but i upped it to 1/320 for these :lmao:

Laf! I suppose it is for turning.

I do not think there is a "best" tool in the shop but I would vote for a table-saw as the most versatile.

touche; they are all important. However, the lathe is my personal favorite tool.

Whenever I need some distraction I'll go to the workshop and fire up the lathe. There's always SOMETHING to make when you're designing, building and racing a Formula Student car.
