I really love the sturdy Manfrotto Triaut 058B, this tripod does not mess around with wind. The one thing that is holding me back from buying it is that i'm not sure how low it will go? I am a very nonspecific photographer, in that i will photograph anything from a small pebble on the ground to the stars in the sky and everything in-between.

2.55 inches according to Manfrotto's web site.

Personally I don't like that tip-over center column. I have a 190CXPRO3 with that same tip-over arrangement and it isn't as solid as the traditional center column arrangement. I have both styles and prefer the traditional style.

The minimum height for the 058 is 17.32 inches not 2.5 inches. I think you are confusing it with the 055.

That is more of a studio, MF/LF tripod. Take a look at something like the 055 if you want to go low. Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 Carbon Fiber Tripod 055CXPRO4 B&H Photo

Those you can take out the center thing, flip it and shoot under the center.

Like so

Poor quality compared to what? Maybe so compared to Really Right Stuff. I have 3 Manfrotto tripods and am very pleased with the quality.

I have the 055 (Aluminium, not carbon fiber) and absolutely love it. The center column doesn't flip upside down like runnah's shot, or if it does, I can't figure it out. They did make a short column but is seems to have been discontinued - you might find a used one somewhere.

97% of 153 people would recommend this to a friend and 4 said it is of poor quality. Some people are never happy.
I see.

What is really the major difference between the Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 vs Manfrotto MT190CXPRO4?

The 055 is like $200 more expensive.

The 055 is taller than the 190. I'm not sure of the capacities, offhand.

I think the 055 is about 1kg more it is able to hold, but they both seem to be mostly identical on the face of it.

All my tripod equipment is Manfrotto, Mainly the Carbon One series and i love there equipment and i beat the living cap out of my tripods, heck i even submerge them half the time in salt water and they still function and work like new.

I do use Acra Swiss Mono Ball heads on all most all of them.

and Really Right Stuff Adapters and mounts on my equipment..

Since the Manfrotto MT190CXPRO4 wasn't that different from the 055 i went ahead with that since it is $200 more affordable. I'll put this $200 i saved into buying the Manfrotto 058B later down the line. So in this case i am able to have my cake and eat it too as you would say.
