Hi,
Just playing around with my new Nikon 35mm f.2 and I noticed something.
If I try to manual focus, there is a noise in the lens and it's like the camera motor is engaged ( I think it is ).
Now, if I put the D90 switch to manual focus, then then manual focus of the lens is smooth.

So was I trying to break my new lens or my camera by assisting the focus manually while the camera was set to autofocus or is there something amiss with the lens ?
I haven't noticed this on other lenses.

Thanks,
Floyd

Assuming yours is the 35mm f2 D, DO NOT try and manually focus the lens when the focus motor is engaged. Unlike AF-S lenses, D series lenses do not offer the option of manually focusing without disengaging the in-body focusing motor.

Thanks, that's what I figured. I don't think I damaged anything by doing it the few times. Don't know what I was thinking, I guess I'm used to my other lenses where that doesn't matter.
One of these days I'll learn to feel for and hit that manual/auto switch on my camera without needing to take my eyes out of the viewfinder, and quickly !
