Margherita the smoker

Second submission from my side, same model though -

The person in the picture is no professional, just my girlfriend. Shot was taken in Salzburg, some moments after the picture i submitted into the Black & White gallery ( http://www.thephotoforum.com/forum/black-white-gallery/342988-10-000-days.html )

No particular meaning, i always thought that smoking women are very nice tos see. I really like the contrast between the ancient old paint on the background and the fair figure of Margherita ( that's her name )

great idea but, imo, her skin is too bright and her head is clipped too much.
I am not a fanatic about not-clipping the head but this is clipped really low and it just looks to me like a framing error.
Her hands are brighter than her face and that pulls my eye

That was my exact reaction as well. I too don't usually worry much about clipping heads, but this one felt off.

I too am in the camp that cropping the tops of heads in portraits is okay. I don't have an issue with either posted photo in that regard. My issue is with the spacing between the ring and pinky fingers, with the thumb filling the gap. If the gap was more in line with the fore finger and middle finger, the disconnect would be less obvious.

This one really wants to be square, I think. I am seeing her face opposed to the points of the V shapes, and feel that the original frame, with enough equal amounts added above and below to make the frame square would have been perfect.

Very nice concept, not quite perfectly executed. Good instinct to get close, but not quite right in this case.
