I recently picked up a new Mark II N from my local camera shop and im in love with it. The only thing im not so happy about is the SLOW file transfer when taking pictures off the camera to a computer. Read through the manual, couldn't find squat. Went to my friend google and it appears this is a semi-common problem but no one had a real solution besides using a mac . At first i was just planning on using EOS Utility (Like i did with my 60D) but the version i have does not support the Mark II....SO! Back to google to find which one does, found the right version...but no download. Anyone know what the problem is? It's not the computer, i am just totally lost. It took about 5 minutes to copy (16) 5-6 MB CR2 files. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

DD, I use Lightroom 3.1.4, under Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) and my last download was about 60 CR2 files and this was all done and ready for keywording, etc. in less that 5 minutes using a card reader. My CR2 files are up to 12-13 Mb. So I will ask the usual questions...

1. Did a usable version of the Canon software not come with your Mk. II?

2. What type of computer (CPU, etc.) are you running and under which OS?

3. Are you using a card reader or downloading directly from the camera?

4. How have you been downloading your files from the Mk II so far - software, versions, etc?

5. You said that you found the right version, but there is "no download" for the EOS utility? Curious what you mean by this statement?? The reason I ask, is that I recently put the full DPP suite on my Netbook (Win 7-32 bit) and even having a version that was four years old, I was able to update to the current version (as of April 2011) with absolutely no problem.

With some additional information, we may be better able to help you.

Cheers,

WesternGuy

All I can think is; is the Mark II N old enough to be USB1? If that is the case it would explain WesternGuy's faster transfer used a card reader, as that is most likely USB2...

Yes, mine is USB2...tyler thanks for the xtra point about USB1...not something I have had to use, so I didn't think of it, but I suppose it is possible. I guess if the OP could get a hold of a card reader then this might help resolve the issue.
