Materials needed for a 3.6k mile road trip?

Within the next week, I will be off on my third voyage across the country, and this time I have a project in mind. People. Basically, every gas attendant I met, every waiter, every person who seems interesting I would like to take a headshot, or a situational portrait. Quick snaps, but with good, deep, artificial lighting. This is where the technical questions come in. The equipment I have is listed in my sig.

Things I will be purchasing:
-Hotshoe + PC cable (Or 1.8") for off camera flash.

And that is primarily it. I wanted a two flash trigger, however I can't afford at this time any wireless triggers...

Any ideas to take, dark, vivid detailed pictures of people on the go? Needs to be travel worthy! Any suggestions on the project?

Haha it's just a rollover of the english language when I lived in a few different places. I mean like, workers at gas stations and such.

Ok, I'm old enough to remember pulling into a gas station and somebody would pump your gas for you, check your oil, air you tires and clean your windshield. I haven't seen one of those folks in a REAL LONG time.

I'm going on a x-country motorcycle ride and taking the D7000, a few lenses, 2 speedlights, tripod, and may throw 2 light stands, an umbrella, and reflector on the bike as well

I'm just going to use the camera's commander mode, if I break out the speedlights it'll all be night stuff and I've been having pretty good luck with it in the dark.

Excellent. This has really helped.

I managed locally to pick up a hotshoe and a PC cord.. However the second I get my hands on the time to order a tigger and a flash, I will.

Not to get terribly off topic here, I was in a tiny town south of where I live last winter. I pulled into the gas station and got out only to have the attendant walk up and ask how much I wanted. He filled it up, checked the oil, everything! I was stunned. At 28, I've only been to a full-service gas station twice. I love 'em! lol
