Just picked up my MB-D80 battery grip for my D90, and I am kicking myself for not getting this thing sooner. It is amazing for vertical shots and I really like having the AF, shutter, and front/rear dials more accessible with the camera tilted to the side. I got it at my semi-local harmon photo, and although I could have ordered it cheaper, im a sucker for liking to have a physical store to take something back to if there's a issue.

You guys know all about this thing already I'm sure so...are there any downsides to the grip besides it just making the camera bigger? Has anyone had any issues with the nikon grip? I heard you can up the FPS with the battery grip on, is that true? Is there lessened performance if you use the 6 AA batteries as apposed to the two nikon batteries? I heard the AA's don't last as long, but are there any issues besides that?

Otherwise I am really liking the feel of the D90 with the grip.:thumbup: way up

I have been using a generic grip for the past year and have nothing negative to say about it at all. It balances out my 200 - 500 lens really well. I've always used 2 en-el3e batteries in the grip and you can get many many shots with the 2 batteries... I'm sure the nikon grip is built better so you should have no worries at all. As far as FPS, I'm pretty sure the D90 is stuck at 4.5 .... Happy shooting

Yea, i didnt really put much faith in a battery grip improving FPS. Supposedly there was a youtube video, but i never saw it. The Nikon grip does feel pretty sturdy, but ive heard plenty of people being happy with off brand grips. I didnt really research any other brands, i just got the nikon.

The grip will occassionally get loose and the camera will lose power. Just be sure to routinely check that the grip is snugged up to the body.

The MB-D80 won't increase the FPS on a D90. Though the Nikon grip for the D300/D300s will give an increase in FPS for those bodies when the right batteries are used.

I definately prefered a gripped camera. The extra weight and gripping surface allow me to hold the camera steadier.

By the same token I loved having a motor winder/bulk film holder on my film cameras.
