Menu Shoot for Sands Regency Casino in Reno, NV

The photos are good and have lots of color, but I don't like all the blurring. Just my 2 pixels.

I often see menus with narrow depth of field in them in all sorts of classes of restaurants. Photos are rarely used in a menu as a representation of the food more of capturing an atmosphere. Whenever I see a restaurant menu where teh food is all in Focus, I don't eat there as it makes me feel that the food is manufactured and reheated. I've only ever seen them in places like Italy where a bar will advertise pasta that has been manufactured shipped in and microwaved.

The one bit of CC I have is that the angle is a little steep. Apart from that, the lighting is good. I would have thought twice when he said that he didn't want to have oil etc on the food to make it shine a bit - did he serve the food to someone right after you shot it?

Thanks for all the comments everyone. Looks like I have some pointers to consider, it also sounds like there is a gamut of opinions that you all have. I'll do my best to keep improving! Thanks again for the comments.

maybe a little too artsy for food pics. The food should do the singing and not your fancy DOF tricks. but if you are going to zoom in tight then move the wine glass out of the shot. The piece of stem looks unprofessional. Photos are also a bit warm giving the food an unnatural yellowness.

Why not have the whole pate in focus? That's my only complaint.

Shoot with longer lens so you will get good separation from the background but still have deeper DOF. And the best thing is it angle of view is so narrow so you wont pick up the distracting background if you have one.

hmmm DOF a little too narrow for my taste. Nice if the background is blurred, but really done like when the foreground is.
