Metallic and Black

Question - what does metallic paper do to the color black?

The background - I have some fireworks pictures that I would like to print and I think the metallic paper would treat the colorful portions of the shot well. But what does the metallic paper do to the black that covers a large portion of the image? Does it become gray? Is it just not right?

What's your experience?

If I was in your situation I would just try it and see what happens.

What brand and grade of metallic paper?
What color space?

Define "the color black".
R=0, G=0, b=0 is pure black (no details).
R=5, G=5, B=5 is not quite as black and may have some details.
Night sky is not very close to being black and usually has unequal amounts of RGB.

Are you aware of 'soft-proofing'. You use the ICC profile for the paper and printing device that will be used so you can see a close example of what the print will look like on your computer display before the print is made.

I use metallic paper when I want a print to have bold colors and a lot of sheen. O don't worry to much about how "black" will be rendered.

KmH - good info there and a lot to process - I think I'll just have them do one and see how it turns out.

I know, it's really about the color, but when it is contrasted against a black sky (pushed in processing to quite black), black has a little more impact. At least as I'm seeing it. Maybe not.
