metering help

my canon xs does not have spot metereing. It has evaluative, partial and center weighted average. Wich Of these should i use for portraits.

Depends on the shot you have. I generally use average and use exposure compensation where required.

"Partial" is the same as spot metering - the spot is just a little bigger than it is on the higher end bodies.

Hold on here ... if you have to ask that question ... then I am not sure you are clear on understanding exposure metering.

Why are you asking which metering mode to use if you do not have spot metering ?
