What do the DATA Cards do on the Maxxum 9xi 35mm Camera?

Here's what I found.

To be honest I'm not sure this system really provides that many benefits. I'd go for a more recent Maxxum model instead.

Their use was similar to the modes (such as Landscapes,sports,portraits etc..) on todays cameras.
