I had that game. I vaguely remember snakes, though. Maybe a friend had a different version? My best friend's parents were from Quebec - was it Snakes and Ladders in Canada, then? Oh the vagaries of memory...

I agree that this could work as an Escher-esque shot, maybe in b&w?

That would be a neat idea, if I had the technical skills to make that happen. I'm going to have to fire up my copy of PSE-12 and see what things are available. And then, I'm gonna have to figure out how to use them. It's a slippery path, I tell you. No knowing where this may lead. If I recall, the map-makers of old used to put dragons and other beasts at the edges of terra cognita.

It was definitely Snakes and Ladders when I was a (Canadian) kid. Both sets of our parents still have it, and my kid loves playing when we go to their houses.

I just knew that as a kid, I used to go up the ladder to the rooftop to lie down there and watch the skies, make a wish, sing a song or two, etc -- until I was told to "Get Off That G-D Roof!!" No snakes up there...just fun.
