how important is mirror lock up when doing macro photography?

I don't normally use mirror lock up for macro photography, but that's not to say it's a pointless thing. I would recommend using it if you have it as it can't hurt, but if you don't have it, I wouldn't recommend spending loads of money to get it unless there's an issue with your macro shots which is related to vibration.

I've found that MLU is most important for shutter speeds around 1/15 - 1/8 seconds. Shutter speeds faster or slower than that really don't seem to be effected by the mirror movement.
