Glad you went against the "rules" ..... #3 is so majestic Nice Job

Hey Coastal, as usual your technical work is impeccable. I love tight crops, perhaps a tweak here and there might polish these up a bit.

In #1 I think he needs the rest of his tail, looking at the top left shift your whole frame down to the bottom of the vertical branch. Even without including the rest of his tail I think this crop off the top helps put the bird's eye in a better place in the frame, and gives more of a "berry's eye perspective".

#2 This one is nice. Nitpicking I think I want to see his knee but I'm not sure if that is going to create a weird negative space.

#3 He is cropped at the knee again and that feels mildly awkward.

I'm a sucker for a good ol' fashioned square crop. Number 1 gets my vote!

CC, nice shots, don't mind the crop, it is not always a "bad thing" and #2 is a good example. If you look at a lot of Art Morris' work, he crops a lot of his images when they are action shots or even just protraits. If you haven't had a look at his blog, I would really encouraget you to subscribe to it - I find it quite useful and it gives me targets to shoot for when it comes to bird photography. I have also had a few e-mail exchanges with him and he has been quite helpful. You can find his blog at - Arthur Morris/BIRDS AS ART. My only comment would be that I would like to see the whole bird in #3. Best wishes to you and yours for the holiday season.

Love all the shots here. Only thing I don't like really is the blur on the berries in the bottom left of the second picture.

Otherwise great shots! :)
