Monitor Sharpness

I recently purchased an HP LP2475W monitor. I also recently purchased a D700. And I use PS CS4/Bridge. When I view photos full screen they appear a little soft - but when I zoom in a little suddenly the same pictures become absolutely crisp and sharp. I'm assuming that it has something to do with monitor interpolation. Has anyone experienced this same phenomenon?

Do you have OpenGL enabled in the Ps CS4 (Photoshop 11) preferences, and have a video card that is OpenGL capable?

The Open GL is enabled (Basic). However, it is while in Bridge that I am seeing this issue. The photos are tack sharp in Photoshop. And my mistake, I am using CS5. Any other ideas?

Bridge is a browser.

Bridge is also the interface through which slide shows are put together etc. Are you saying that Bridge should not be expected to show the same quality image as in Photoshop?

i noticed that too, when i fit to screen (ctrl+0), it's a lot less sharp than if i were to zoom in or out by 1 increment

Ahhhh...at least now I know I'm not crazy or in need of better glasses. Are you using an external monitor and if so what size? (mine is 24inch) And are you using a laptop as your main computer (I am - I have the external monitor wired to it via HDMI cable)? I was wondering if any of these factors were related to the issue we're seeing.

I just found the answer. In Bridge, look under Edit/Preferences/Advanced and check the box for "Generate Monitor Size Previews". Also make sure that you check the box for "purge cache" to get rid of the old thumbnails etc.

On Bridge main screen at the top right, I also selected "always high Quality" for type of thumbnail (but am not sure that it was necessary). Voila! Hope it works for you.
