Interesting, I had not thought of that situation.
I've only used mine in open area, were I could not brace against anything.
    Learned something new.

Monopods will not include a head. But make sure the mono-pod has a reversible stud. Camera's use a 1/4" 20 threads-per-inch stud to mount to the tripod hole. But tripod heads all use a 3/4" 16-tpi stud. Many (most?) mono-pods have a reversible mounting stud so you can attach it with the camera stud or the head stud sticking up.

Since better photo tripods allow you to swap heads, you would have the option of stealing the head from your photo tripod to put it on the monopod.

I never "purchased" a head for my monopods... but as I happen to have a few tripods and several different heads, I just grab a head if I want one. I will occasionally brace the monopod or use it in a way that I want to be able to tilt the camera independent of the monopod, so I typically do throw a head on it.

I think you mean 3/8" stud.

I DID mean 3/8”. Thanks for catching that!

... BUT IF you could a tripod head with a 3/4” bolt... that would be REALLY BEEFY! ;-)

I WOULD like a 3/4" stud for my 4x5 view camera.
The 1/4" bolt seems too small to me, never mind the guys shooting 8x10.
