Had a go at taking a shot of the moon tougher than you think to get a decent image its so damn bright

Looks over sharpened to me, but the exposure looks good.
What focal length did you use?

It's nice the moon is reflective enough and close enough that we can use short shutter speeds, like 1/500.
The tough part, exposure wise, is the dynamic range between the bright craters and the dark mare lava flows.

Some that photograph the moon shoot video and then cherry pick the frames made when the atmosphere was steady, a technique called lucky imaging.
